Attachment After Adversity:

Building Resilience Through Relationships

Early adversity impacts millions of children around the world and is linked to negative outcomes.

Decades of research show that early adversity can lead to trauma, which can impact mental and physical health, spiritual well-being, relational stability, and more. These findings can be discouraging for those of us who love children who have experienced early adversity.

But adversity is not the end of the story.

Children are more than the adversity they experience. Given the right environment and inputs, they can overcome the challenges they’ve faced and truly thrive. Caring adults have an essential role to play in making that possible. Through the building of relationships and resilience, we can see the children overcome adversity and fulfill their potential.
